The legacy of the Czech EU Presidency

Jan 25, 2023

We are thrilled to share that an official letter regarding FH Paediatric Screening and endorsing the Prague Declaration was sent to the Swedish Minister for Health Care, signed by the Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health, Mr. Vlastimi VÁLEK. In the official correspondence welcoming the new Swedish Presidency of the EU, officials of the outgoing Czech EU Presidency draw attention to the outcome of the Prague meeting – the Prague Declaration, which provided a potential framework for implementing FH Paediatric Screening across the European Union in the future. The letter was addressed to Ms. Acko ANKARBERG JOHANSSON, with a copy sent out to all Ministers of Health of the EU Member States.

As per our information the document was sent out by the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the EU in the second week of January 2023.

“I would like to draw your attention to the outcome of the meeting – the Prague Declaration, attached to my letter, which provides a potential framework for implementing FH Paediatric Screening across the European Union in the future.”

— Czech Minister of Health, Mr. Vlastimi VÁLEK in his letter to Ms. Acko ANKARBERG JOHANSSON Swedish Minister for Health Care.

As a follow up to the letter, all EU based members of the FH Europe Network organizations have been urged to liaise with their respective health authorities and drawing their attention to the FH issue.

This is an incredible advocacy achievement and a significant success of the meeting hosted by Senator Roman Kraus on September 6 in the Czech Senate and under the auspices of the Czech Presidency of the EU and with the personal involvement of Deputy Minister Jakub Dvořáček. Unquestionable a lasting legacy of the Czech EU Presidency in the efforts to promote cardiovascular health in Europe.

We would like to recognize the efforts of the whole Czech team of experts and ambassadors with Diagnoza FH leading the initiative. Congratulations and thank you on behalf of the FH community! We would also like to recognize once again the effort of an international group of experts who made the Prague meeting a success, all the speakers and the team who organized it. Finally, we say thank you to all organizations and individuals who endorsed it, and those who endorsed the Prague Declaration.
